Yale Divinity School Water Feature Competition
competition, fall 2024
We sought to design a rain garden reflecting the integrity and ambition of the new Living Village campus at the Yale Divinity School through simple material and delicate form. Inspired by the building’s terracotta tones and sustainable infrastructure, a congregation of pipes are linked and supported by thinner, angled conduits. The pipes spout and channel water down to the garden’s bed of stones and soil, watering a variety of native plants, mosses, and grasses in the process.
Inspired by the Tsukubai Japanese Water Garden, we wanted to honor the cyclical, sacred flow of water and create a space for meditation with living and nonliving elements. In a hectic and fast-paced world, such gardens are meant to slow our perception of time and encourage thoughtful reflection. In the same spirit of the Living Village, Conduit is a reminder of what sustains us and drives us forward.
